How to Spray Lawns for Weeds, Safely and Effectively

5/5

There are several ways that you can safety and effectively spray your lawn for weeds.

Pre-emergent

The first way is to use a pre-emergent on the areas of your lawn that you are wanting to preserve. These pesticides can help to prevent the germination of the weeds because they can inhibit the key enzyme in growth. They are especially good for crabgrass if you have a lot of it in your yard. This should be done in the spring time but some people don’t always have the money, time, or energy to do this. But if you do, it is great for making sure that the plants that are already established in your yard will flourish.

Broad spectrum

The second way is to make wise decisions when it comes to the broad spectrum herbicides that you are using in your yard. This is because they have the ability to kill of the plant life that you have in your yard for up to one year. But it is also going to kill you lawns. Therefore, it should only be used in the areas of your yard where you do not want any type of vegetation. Most of the time, this will be along the fence lines, on the dry stacked patios, sidewalks and driveways, and around the perimeter of the home and garage. If you are planning on replanting something in area any type in the near future, then you will need not to spray the broad spectrum herbicides in this area. It is very important that you read of the directions on the label before you use it and spray it in the areas very carefully.

Fresh

The third way is to start over so that you will have a fresh start with your lawn. This is especially true if you are wanting to replant the entire lawn. IN order to have a garden that is weed free or if you are trying to make a flower bed of the weed patch, then it is a good idea to spray the chemical RM18. It has the same active ingredients as the RM43 but the percentage is not as high in this chemical. This chemical will stay with the plant so it is not going to help the ungerminated seeds and they will break down as soon as they make contact with the soil. In other words, they will kill each of the plants that they touch down to the root but they will make the area available so that you can replant. You will only have to wait one day if you are wanting to plant ornamental but three days for your fruits and vegetables.

Pull

The fourth way is if you have any doubt, then you need to pull whatever you might think it is a weed. This is one of the best ways that you will be able to kill the weeds inside of your garden. Most of the time, this will be done as a caution when you are trying to get the most out of your garden. When you are using the weed kills that have a lot of chemicals in them, it can be very risky if you happen to overspray the plants because they will become damaged. This is something that you don’t want to happen since you have did a lot of hard work to get the plants to grow. Therefore, if you are really wanting to be safe, then just cut or pull the weeds out of your lawn. This way you know that they are not going to rob your garden of any of the resources like water and sun.
